Wild Edibles Walk with Russ Cohen

An outdoor walk and talk exploring wild edibles at Waltham Fields Community Farm!

Tuesday, June 11, 2024

6-8 p.m.

$35 per participant

Come together for this outdoor gathering on the farm with wild edibles expert Russ Cohen!

Participants will walk the farm, locate and identify wild, edible species with Russ's help, learn how to 'forrage' sustainably, and ask questions from the expert!

Russ will share his knowledge and favorite recipes as we get closer to nature and the gifts it provides! Bring a foraging bag and a pair of gloves for collecting wild edibles we find along the way if interested (not required).

* Please wear closed-toe shoes and high socks or long pants for protection as Russ will walk us throughout the working farm, woodland borders, and areas of high grass, brush and leaves.

* This workshop is geared towards adult learning, but young learners with an interest are welcome to join! Youth 18 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Opportunities to purchase Russ Cohen’s book, “Wild Plants I Have Known… and Eaten” will be available at the end of this workshop.  Copies of this fantastic resource are also available for sale at the Farm Stand!

More about Russ: Since his retirement in June 2015, while continuing to offer walks and talks on foraging for wild edibles, Russ has set up a nursery near his childhood home in Weston, MA, where he is growing over 1,000 plants, representing more than a third of the 180-plus edible species native to New England ecoregions - many propagated from seed Russ gathered himself. Russ is forming partnerships with land trusts, municipalities, state and federal agencies, schools and colleges, tribal groups, and others, to plant plants from his nursery in appropriate places on their properties.
