Day of Community Service Learning on the Farm for Teens

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Monday, January 15, 2024.  11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

FREE COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING EVENT FOR TEENS

Due to limited space, this free event requires a complete registration by a parent or guardian for all teens attending.

Please save your spot and register for this event by 5 p.m. Sunday, January 13th.

Serve your community and experience the power of collective action while learning about the deep impact of Martin Luther King Jr. and leaders within the BIPOC Community on food equity, regenerative agriculture, and contemporary food systems, especially many systems we utilize here at WFCF to continue our mission of food equity and access!

Join WFCF Education Team and guest arborist, Alex Klein, for a hands-on afternoon of service to the community we serve on the land we steward at Waltham Fields Community Farm, and help us manage our fruit and berry trees and shrubs.  Teens will learn about tree pruning during the dormant season, take a tree walk and learn to identify the trees on the farm, and assist Alex Klein in fully pruning the sour cherry tree in the center of the WFCF Learning Garden, where hundreds of youth and families will visit when the ground thaws.

* Landscaping hand tools and protective safety gloves provided for all participants.

4 hours of community service are available for those who attend this free event designed especially for teens to come together and serve their community.

This program will take place primarily outdoors.  Please dress in warm layers and be prepared to work together outdoors for 45 minutes at a time. Warm, indoor areas will be available as needed.

Various levels of physical activity are required to complete the tasks at hand. Our inclusive programs can modify tasks to accommodate most learners in advance, so all who are interested are able to comfortably participate. Please email Director of Education & Community Programs, Jessica@communityfarms.org, with confidential requests for accommodations.

More information will be shared with those who register.

Please contact Jessica@communityfarms.org with questions about this community service learning opportunity for teens.
