STRETCH OUT WITH US in the LEARNING GARDEN AFTER SCHOOL!

Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for SIX WEEKS of fall-time exploration in the fresh air on the farm! Program sessions are guided by immersive curriculum and experiential learning through movement-based games and activities, garden and animal explorations, farm walks, science experiments, nature crafting, direct connections with the farm and the farmers, and sustainable farming practices. Occasionally we will harvest produce that youth have helped grow, which they will bring home to share with their families.

Youth are able to take responsibility for the fall Learning Garden and will help manage the small compost bins, help care for vegetables and berry bushes, engage with our egg-laying hens and our fiber-producing rabbits, and learn to identify weeds and garden pests we find along the way. We hope to strengthen the connection between youth and the natural environment by expanding their exposure to and engagement with sustainable farm and food system models.

This program takes place outdoors for the entire hour and 30 minutes, rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

                                     COVID SAFETY AND AWARENESS

  • Face masks are required for each session. We are currently masking when going indoors for any amount of time, and anytime we are unable to remain at safe distances from each other.  During rain, play will move to the Learning Garden Cottage, considered an indoor space. Staff and participants are required to wear masks when in the Cottage.
  • Due to safety precautions, we will not prepare food on-site or eat together as part of the regular program sessions, unless we are able to remain fully outdoors for the entire program session. Please eat before you arrive on-site. Please do not send your child with snacks. A light snack will be provied when the weather permits. Water bottles or warm liquids are okay. Safe spaces provided for water breaks.
  • When produce can be harvested, youth will bring items home for snacking and cooking with their family.
  • More information about our COVID-19 Safety Recommendations and how to best prepare your family for this program will be delivered upon registration closer to the start date of the program. Learning Garden Safety Recommendations are posted and updated as needed on our website.
  • Participants may be asked to complete a COVID-19 potential exposure self-screening.
